Reading this book about a neurosurgeon with a remarkable mind and an English degree, his search for meaning in life and death, his family of doctors, their dinner parties, their pursuit of knowledge, and conversations about literature made me feel like I was reading about a more evolved species. If it were fiction, I would have scoffed at the author’s attempt to make their protagonist too well-rounded.
